Using the Nikon WT 3
The WT3 WirelessSetup software fools you into think you can simply edit the data in a profile and re-save. In my experience, this NEVER worked. It took me days to figure out why. Whenever editing the profile, be sure to change the Profile name. You will see in my example the Profile name is NWL6. To change any data in the profile, begin by changing the name to, for example, NWL7 then change data and save the profile.
I’ve now moved on to the Nikon D300 and that meant having to change the wireless transmitter, too. Thankfully, the setup software for the WT 4 seems more solid and it didn’t take long to have the old computer running with the new kit. I’m staying with the Netgear 834, they’re a great little box of tricks. For my party photos outings I mostly only use the router side of this but I’ll always have the modem there if it’s needed. By using the Netgear 834 I don’t have to worry about ad hoc setups. The Mac has three or four locations programmed - one for home, one for the Nikon and one for the Netgear.
I’ve made a simple pdf on how to setup the Nikon WT3 and WT34 using the infrastructure mode with settings for the Netgear 834 and Mac OS X so if anyone wants a copy, just use the contact page on thepartyphotos.net
